The Solid Foundation
Reading Matthew 5-7 in sections often leads to thinking of the various PARTS of the sermon as sound bites rather than seeing it within the context of the WHOLE. Jesus used language and rhetoric in a masterful way to lead his listeners into a fresh revelation of the nature and character of God the Father. The reality is, the Sermon on the Mount is less about how we are supposed to behave as Christians and FAR MORE about who God is!
This week we look at the final passage of the Sermon on the Mount. The two houses built on sand and rock. As Jesus - a trained and experienced builder - teaches about the importance of a proper foundation, the emphasis and conclusion of Jesus message continues to be choosing the LAW OF LOVE.
• Who are the people not doing the will of the Father? What is His will?
• What is the "thesis" of Jesus' sermon?
• What is the result of a life lived by the law?
• What is the "house" that is being built? What does the crash/collapse mean?
• How was Jesus' message different than the other teachers of the law?
