The Point World Cafe Topic Night

A couple weeks ago, The Point held a topical discussion night. We collected students’ difficult questions about God and His Kingdom ahead of time and set-up five round tables covered in a big sheet of paper. Each topic table had a list of a dozen or more scriptures related to the question and a handful of “go deeper” questions to encourage discussion. Four people could sit at each table. They discussed and studied and recorded their thoughts on the table for about twenty minutes, and then switched to a new table. It was the first-ever Point World Café Topic Night!

At first, students were upset with me. “But we just want you to tell us the answers,” they cried in frustration. But they engaged – however reluctantly – with the activity. In moments the room came alive with discussion, questions, the rustle of paper, and the scratch of pens. Spiritual energy filled the room as young disciples sought God together.

A few lightbulbs lit up as students uncovered truths related to their difficult questions. Some people felt they found the answers they sought. Others left with more questions than they came with. But I truly believe all experienced the love of God and the value of seeking Him in community that night.

If you have time to encourage a Jr. or Sr. High student in their spiritual journey, please take a moment to do so. One of the greatest ways you can support these disciples of Jesus as they seek to KNOW GOD is to let them know you are rooting for them! Ask them what God is revealing to them – and listen for what He might want to share with you through them.

If you want to participate in some of these spiritually charged experiences with young people, let me know. I can hook you up!
