Overcoming Spiritual Constipation
Last Saturday we had a great conversation about Spiritual Constipation. If you are receiving from God and His people, but you are not releasing those things to others, you are spiritually constipated - and it isn't healthy!
The act of releasing what God has placed in you is better known as "ministry". If you are a disciple of Jesus, you are a member of the Priesthood of All Believers. You have the responsibility and privilege of ministering before God, to His people, and to the world!
1 Peter 2:9 says, ". . . you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light."
We have been given gifts for the express purpose of ministry - not for our own benefit! In John 20:21-22, Jesus tells us "'Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.' Then he breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'"
Think about that for a moment. If you have received the Holy Spirit in your life, you have been commissioned to release (or bind) something in the world RIGHT NOW and RIGHT HERE. Jesus said, "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven" (Matthew 16:19).
Sometimes we struggle to release the things of God. We wrestle with uncertainty, doubt, selfishness, distrust, fear, faith, etc. We stick to only doing what we have always done, because it is safe and comfortable. I believe that when we experiment with new ways of ministering to others - both inside and outside the church walls - we uncover the hidden treasures of Spiritual growth and depth God has for us.
So are you interested in experimenting with ministry? Here are just a handful of ministries taking place in Trinity right now with opportunities to engage:
This is just a handful of opportunities to serve and minister at Trinity. There are so many more you can check out here, but don't limit yourself to what is considered "formal" ministry. Your whole life can become an act of ministry!
